Explore an active volcano from the inside out! Start in the lava-buried village of Kalapana where a short walk across the recent lava flow reveals the beautiful black sand beach at Kaimu. Look for surface outbreaks and ocean entries of the current eruption. Visit a working macadamia nut farm for a feel for the real Hawaii. Next, your guide will grant you exclusive access driving down into a 350 acre crater on the flanks of the active Kilauea volcano. More than 500 years old, the crater is a wild and natural paradise holding one of only two fresh water lakes on the island. Pass lush forests and sweeping meadows on your way up the four-wheel drive road to the crater summit. The view of the vast expanse of black lava fields is a spectacular backdrop to enjoy your choice of beverage including wa-ter, juice, soft drinks and locally brewed beer and chilled champagne. This is certainly the perfect way to end your Big Island volcano adventure!
